Late goal decides issue in favour of Saints

Ħamrun then won a corner kick on the right flank which was well taken by Janot Portelli. It created havoc in the Saints’ area and the ball was somehow cleared away to safety. Redeemer Muscat was then fouled on the right flank and the ball was headed away following the free kick by Gauci.

Four minutes before the break, St Andrew were denied by the woodwork as Veselji released Sansone on the edge of the area and from his hard grounder the ball hit the base of the upright with Schembri beaten - the ball finished out.

Five minutes after the restart, St Andrew were awarded a penalty when Kelly served Sansone with a square pass on the right flank who then crossed the ball in the area to Zak Muscat who was pushed from behind. Sansone took charge of the spot kick but Schembri saved his central low shot.

As the Saints insisted, Muscat served Sansone with a square pass outside the area but Schembri saved his hard grounder.

Sansone was then fouled on the right edge of the area and after the ball was partly cleared outside the area from the free kick by Sixsmith, Sebastian Agius drove slightly over the bar from the rebound. Veselji was then fouled outside the area but Schembri saved Sixsmith’s freekick.

In an action by Ħamrun, Vella was fouled on the left edge of the area but St Andrew keeper Sebastian Spiteri saved the hard grounder by the same player from the free kick. At the other end after a Veselji flag kick, Benjamin Gatt Floridia missed the upright with a header from inside the area.

Eight minutes before the end St Andrew opened the score with a choral move between three players. Kelly served Veselji with a through ball just outside the area and the latter returned the compliment to Zak Muscat in the area who scored with a hard grounder.

In the last action before the end, Zak Muscat released Veselji in the area and after Schembri partly saved his shot the ball was cleared away.
