Dismissed Arrow Pharm workers ‘will be re-absorbed’
Employees who are being made redundant as part of Arrow Pharm’s restructuring process “will be re-absorbed immediately,” the economy ministry said yesterday.
Arrow Pharm is owned by Actavis, with Nationalist Party media saying that the company was planning to lay off many workers.
Reacting to the reports, the ministry said that all employment will be safeguarded.
“Irrespective of the sensationalised reports by the Nationalist media, the situation is that the company in question, as already announced, is undergoing a restructuring process. This process involves a number of redundancies, which will, however, be reabsorbed immediately by the company which is acquiring part of the ex-Arrow Pharm Ħal Far operations in Malta.”
“As previously communicated by the government, there are other pharmaceutical companies that have already expressed their willingness to take the workers on board. Furthermore, the number of vacancies in the pharmaceutical sector at present exceeds the number of layoffs.
In conclusion, the government remains committed to enhancing the pharmaceutical sector in Malta, with the latest announcement being the investment of €15 million by CETIC Pharmaceutical Ltd which will create over 60 new jobs in three years.”
