Paolites turn the tide

Vella fisted the ball outside the area and from the rebound by Aleandro Garcia, Vella turned the ball to another corner.

Paola reacted and Matthias Vella dribbled past an opponent outside the area but missed the upright from the distance. Glen Mifsud then dribbled past an opponent on the left flank and Farrugia saved his rising shot.

In a Floriana action, Sciberras released Erson Schembri on the left flank who after advancing the ball missed the far post from his crossshot.

Poala equalised in the 66th minute when Nathan Attard lobbed the ball in Floriana’s area and a defender handled the ball. The referee pointed to the spot and Gatt scored with a hard grounder.

After scoring from the spot he ran into goal and tussled for the ball with Farrugia. After the tussle ended he was called by the referee who brandished the red card.

Encouraged by the equaliser Paola kept pressing until the end.

Attard entered the area after dribbling past two opponents and his low drive missed the upright. Substitute Larson Borg was fouled just outside the area but Farrugia saved the free kick by Portelli in two attempts.

In the third minute of added time, Paola sored the winner. Portelli won a loose ball in midfield and after dribbling his way past three opponents, he entered the area and served Matthew Farrugia with a low cross who scored with a hard low drive.
