A draw was a fair result in this game as both teams had their very good moments by creating scoring chances.

After a balanced first period, San Ġwann enjoyed the lion’s share of exchanges in the second half.

Following this game San Ġwann lead the standings on 16 points from 7 games while St Andrew are second on 14 points also from 7 games.

St Andrew created the first action as Jacaob Crossey released Alexander Spiteri on the left flank who, after advancing, crossed the ball in the area but there were no takers to apply the killer touch.

In the first action by San Ġwann in the 5th minute they opened the score with a choral move between three players.

Kieran Zarb served Nathan Sultana with a through ball outside the area who returned the compliment to Andrea Zammit in the area. The latter scored with a rising shot past St Andrew keeper Beppe Mangion.

Two more actions were created by San Ġwann. A flag kick by Sultana was cleared away with difficulty. Jake Cordina served Jake Grech with a square pass outside the area but Mangion saved his distant hard grounder.

St Andrew forward Vinay Bharwani was fouled outside the area and from the free kick by Russell Micallef, San Ġwann keeper Miguel Xerri turned the ball to a corner.

St Andrew equalised in the 23rd minute. Bharwani dribbled past an opponent on the right flank and after advancing, served Spiteri with a through ball in the area.

The latter passed the ball to Sebastian Cassar Torregiani who scored with a hard low drive.

Before the interval whistle, San Ġwann threatened through a Zammit shot, but Mangion saved his effort to a corner.

San Ġwann were active on the restart.

Zammit was fouled outside the area and the same player drove slightly over the bar from the free kick.

Jake Cordina then dribbled past an opponent on the right flank and after advancing, Mangion neutralise­d the ball following his high cross in the area.

San Ġwann keeper Miguel Xerri then saved a free kick by Russell Micallef after Reece Galea was fouled just outside the area.

In another action by St Andrew, Abela served Spiteri with a good pass outside the area and Xerri had to dive and save his distant shot to a corner.

The last two actions before the end were created by San Ġwann. Jake Grech released Zammit on the right flank and after advancing Mangion neutralise­d the ball from his cross. Zarb was then fouled on the right flank and the ball was cleared away from the free kick by Jake Grech.
