Mario Buhagiar wins Vanguard Trap trophy

Mario Buhagiar won the Vanguard Trap Competitio­n at the Southern Shooting Club, an event that was organised on two qualificat­ion rounds of 25 clay targets each.

Buhagiar was on top of the world as he clinched his first-ever victory, since he started competing.

Veteran Frank Scorfna joined Mario Buhagiar on the podium when he finished in second place overall while James Galea finished in position number three.

The six finalists and their qualificat­ion scores were; Mario Buhagiar 45/50, Nicky Carabott 44/50, James Galea 44/50, Frank Scorfna 44/50, Stephen Vella 39/50 and Paul Gatt 38/50. The finals overall results were: 1st Mario Buhagiar 19/25 + 3/5 + 4/5 + 5/5 + 7/10, total score 38/50

2nd Frank Scorfna 20/25 + 4/5 + 4/5 + 3/5 + 6/10, total score 37/50

3rd James Galea 19/25 + 4/5 + 5/5 + 1/5, total score 29/40

4th Stephen Vella 16/25 + 4/5 + 3/5, total score 23/35

5th Nicky Carabott 13/25 + 4/5, total score 17/30

6th Paul Gatt 12/25, total score 12/25

The top shooters in their respective classes concluded their two qualificat­ion rounds with the following scores:

Class A

1st Mario Buhagiar 45/50 2nd James Galea 44/50 (Count Back Rule)

3rd Nicky Carabott 44/50

Class B

1st Justin Borg 38/50 2nd Carmelo Briffa (Count Back Rule)

3rd Mark Bonello 36/50
