Malta AAA organise annual Marsascala Road Relay

The Malta AAA organised the annual Marsascala Road Relay last Saturday.

It started and finished next to the historic St Thomas Tower in Marsascala. The relay consisted of 4 legs of 5km each and attracted a total of 17 teams in the Men’s Category while 7 teams took part in the Women’s Category.

In the Men’s relay, Mellieha AC, composed of Philip Vella, Darren Agius, James Scriha and Andrew Grech, staved off the challenge of Pembroke Athleta and claimed victory in a final time of 1 hour 4 minutes and 14 seconds.

Pembroke Athleta took second place in 1:04:47 with anchor man Luke Micallef achieving the fastest leg of the day with a time of 15:33.

Mellieha AC confirmed their strength in depth with their ‘B’ team achieving third place.

In the Women’s relay, St Patrick’s AC emerged winners after a closely fought tussle with Pembroke Athleta.

The St Patrick’s quartet made up of Joelle Cortis, Marica Micallef, Paul Grech and Roberta Schembri, clocked a final time of 1:15:43.

Second placed Pembroke Athleta were second in 1:16:47 while AS Libertas were a clear third.

The fastest leg was run by Lisa Marie Bezzina of Pembroke Athleta in a time of 17:36.

The next MAAA event will be the race in the MAAA Road Running League which will be held at Ta’ Qali next Sunday 28 January starting at 8.15am.
