Vittoriosa S 1 Sirens 1

Vittoriosa had to settle for a draw against Sirens and missed a golden opportunity to move closer to the top sides in the standings.

With Mqabba and Pieta dropping precious points on Friday and Saturday, Vittoriosa needed the three points to gain further ground, but found in Sirens a hard nut to crack.

Sirens dominated the first half, creating several scoring opportunities, but in the end it was Vittoriosa who scored the goal that mattered to give Vittoriosa a slender half time lead. Sirens had many shots at goal with efforts from Michael Micallef and Ethan Goodman just missing the target.

On the half hour Sirens missed another good chance with an Iro Curmi header missing the upright by a whisker. But seven minutes before the break Vittoriosa were in front when Duncan Pisani passed towards Emmanuel Mbong who rounded the goalkeeper before putting at the back of net.

On the resumption, Vittoriosa had a couple of good scoring opportunities, but half way through the secodn half Sirens obtained a deserved equaliser when Ryan Previ’s shot was partially blokced by Magri and substitute Giovanni Galea was on hand to drill the ball home.

Eight minutes from time Sirens were reduced to ten men when Isaac Chircop received e second booking. Vittoriosa tried a last ditch effort to gain the three points at stake and went close a minute from the final whistle when Andre Farrugia’s close range effort finished againt the upright.
