MCAST withdraws legal proceedings against MUT as a sign of goodwill
MCAST has withdrawn the legal proceedings it has instituted against MUT with the proviso that MUT will, on its part, return to discussions which should resume uninterruptedly until the Collective Agreement negotiations are concluded successfully.
Notwithstanding the fact that discussions can continue irrespective of the court case, MCAST said it will take this step if it means an agreement can be achieved.
MCAST reaffirms its position that it has always been open to continue discussions, has already offered a very good package of improved conditions for academic staff and is willing to continue discussions on this front for the benefit of its staff and students.
It reiterates its commitment that it is ready to meet the Malta Union of Teachers to continue discussions immediately, even tomorrow, and calls for all stakeholders to work together for the best interest of students and educators.
“We owe it to our young people and dedicated staff to find a mature and sensible way forward for a successful resolution,” the college said.
“We believe this is a reasonable and fair way forward that can lead to the conclusion of this agreement, if there is indeed goodwill from both sides to reach this goal.”
On Wednesday, it denied trying to introduce new practices while the MUT was unable to protest.
In reply, MUT said MCAST’s move shows that it had no legal grounds and had used the courts as a delaying tactic.
MCAST is not in a position to make conditions after losing its credibility, MUT said, adding that it reserved the right to call further industrial action.
