Camilleri brothers continue to dominate

The Assocjazzj­oni Sport Muturi u Karozzi continued with an activity of the Honda Motocross National Championsh­ip 2017/2018 last Sunday.

Twenty one competitor­s divided into three classes registered for this race held at Ta’ Qali ASMK Sports Complex.

During the day, in Class A, where riders with experience and skills compete, Kyle Camilleri on his KTM dominated the qualificat­ion race.

During this pre-race event, Kyle was followed by Carmelo Borg on his Honda and Clayton Camilleri on a KTM. During the following two heats which count for the day’s championsh­ip points, Kyle Camilleri registered a record lap time and also won the first heat.

But in the second heat it was Klye’s brother Clayton Camilleri who won ahead of Kyle who finished in second place. The final result of the day for this Class A showed Clayton as the winner and followed by his brother Kyle Both Camilleris compete on KTM motorcycle­s while third placed Carmel Borg rides on a Honda. Fourth place was awarded to Stefan Dimech on his Honda while fifth placed James Zahra rides a Sherco MX Bike.

In Class B, Bernard Sammut on his sponsored Beta dominated. He managed to win both the qualifying and the heats of the day. In the final day’s results Sammut was followed by Daniel Caruana on a Honda while third placed was Christophe­r Hartmann on a KTM. Fourth and fifth places were won by Krist Falzon and Michael Sant respective­ly, both riding Husqvarna motorcycle­s.

In the Veterans Class, for riders of the age of 40 years and over, but who are still able to ride motocross in competitio­n, Paul Deguara on his KTM emerged as the winner. In the final classifica­tion Paul was followed by Andrew Cassar on KTM. Third placed rider was Daniel Bonnici on a KTM.

Meanwhile the activities of the associatio­n are to continue next week. On Thursday 15 February a meeting and race registrati­on is being organized for those competitor­s who wish to participat­e in the ‘Mini Car Demolition’ to be held on 18 March at Ta’ Qali.

On Saturday 17 February ASMK will be holding the race final of the Autocross Class A which was postponed on Sunday 26 November 2017. This race is being held at the Ta’ Qali Sport Complex and starts at 3pm. Admission to this race final is free for all.

On Sunday 18 February 2018, ASMK will be organizing another motorcycle race from the WotoMoto National Enduro Championsh­ip for 2017/2018. This event which is open also to non-ASMK members is to take place at the Fawwara Hardrocks Quarry and starts at 10am. Registrati­on opens at 09am.
