Malta U-19 team to play in 2018 Roma Caput Mundi

The Malta U-19 squad are taking part in the 12th edition of the Internatio­nal Tournament Juvenile Amateur Football, better known as the Roma Caput Mundi.

Coach Wayne Attard has selected a squad of 20 players for this tournament, being played between yesterday and Friday.

The majority of the players in Attard’s squad are on the books of local clubs but two are based in Italy – goalkeeper Rashed Al Tumi is part of Palermo’s youth sector and defender Romario Camilleri is with Gubbio.

Several players who represente­d Malta in the UEFA U-17 Qualifying Tournament, held here in October, have been promoted to the U-19 squad.

Malta opened their Group B commitment­s against Albania yesterday. Their second match is against the Lazio Regional Selection today and, on Thursday, the Maltese team takes on Greece EPS Pellas in their final group match.

The winners of the two groups will contest the final on Friday at 10.30am.

The Malta U-19 contingent, led by MFA Technical Director Robert Gatt, was due travelled to Rome on Sunday.

The Malta U-19 squad regularly participat­es in this annual tournament which enables the young players to play in competitiv­e matches and gain experience at internatio­nal level.
