Maltese youth bowlers qualify for the Grandfinal­s in May

Two youths from the Malta Tenpin Bowling Associatio­n, namely 16-year-old Matthew Magro and 19-year-old Juliana Bonanno flew to Nieuwegein in Netherland­s to compete in the 5th stop of the Youth European Trophy Tour.

They competed against players from Denmark, Sweden, England, Netherland­s, Ireland, Scotland, France, Germany, Belgium, Ukraine and Russia.

Both Matthew and Juliana managed to qualify with the top 12 of their respective divisions to play the finals on Sunday.

Matthew qualified in sixth place with a 1193-series over 6 games (199 average) Whilst Juliana qualified in twelfth place with a 991-series over 6 games (166 average).

Adding to his qualifying score, Matthew bowled 787 over 4 games in the finals, totalling to 1980 and finished in sixth place, missing out on top 4 by just 51 pins. Whereas Juliana played 645 over 4 games in the finals, totalling to 1636 finishing in tenth place.

Matthew Magro was also given an award for being the most consistent player of the whole tournament.

Both players achieved ranking points from this tournament with which they will qualify for the grand finals of the European Youth Trophy Tour in May. Matthew is currently ranked in third place in the U16 Boys whilst Juliana is currently in seventh place in the U22 Girls.
