St Lucia, Marsaxlokk share spoils in top clash

In the top clash of the week, St Lucia and Marsaxlokk shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw at the Centenary Stadium. John Nwoba opened the scoring on 21 minutes with Pablo Doffo equalising on 73 minutes.

Gudja United also gained an important victory in their quest for promotion when they defeated fellow challenger­s Siggiewi in a hot tempered match at the Luxol Stadium on Saturday.

In this match, no fewer than three players were sent off. Nicholas Zammit scored the winning goal for Gudja on 45 minutes.

St George’s produced the surprise of the week when they defeated leaders Swieqi United by a solitary goal scored by Ifeyani Wisdom on 90 minutes.

Normal service was resumed for Fgura when they beat Birzebbugi­a St Peter’s by two goals to nil in the first match at the Luxol Stadium on Sunday. Ryan Sell scored a brace on 30 and 52 minutes.

Mgarr United continued their positive run when they beat bottom side Gharghur through a Leon Zammit goal after just 5 minutes.

Another surprise was registered in the second match at the Luxol Stadium on Sunday when strugglers Luqa St Andrew’s defeated Kalkara by four goals to two. Luqa opened the scoring through Greg Marney on 52 minutes but Dylan Xuereb equalised on 65 minutes with Timmy Thomas turning it around for Kalkara a minute later. However Luqa stunned the Greens with three goals from Jason Good on 86 and 90 minutes as well as Jihad Azzagari on 88 minutes to seal a hugely important victory.
