St Lucia’s dream season continues as Gharghur are relegated

In a match from the bottom end of the table, Luqa St Andrew’s condemned Gharghur to Third Division football next season when they defeated them by two gaols to one at the Sirens Stadium.

Greg Marney put Luqa ahead after just two minutes with Nikola Tasic equalising on 16 minutes for Gharghur. The winning goal came from a Tasic penalty six minutes from time.

St Lucia continued their dream season with a tight 1-0 victory over Mgarr United in the first match at the Sirens Stadium on Sunday. Kevin Camilleri scored the winning goal on 36 minutes.

Fgura United returned to winning ways with a 3-1 victory over St George’s in a bad tempered match at the Centenary Stadium on Saturday where three players were sent off. Gilbert Martin put Fgura ahead on 18 minutes with Bobby ray Vaughan equalising from the penalty spot on 38 minutes. Ryan Sell scored a brace on 53 and 72 minutes to seal the victory for Fgura.

Swieqi United confirmed top spot with an emphatic 6-1 victory over Kalkara who crashed to their second heavy defeat in as many games in the second match at the Luxol Stadium on Sunday. Swieqi’s goals came from Mirko Vella on 29’, Suraka Sadat on 31’, Roderick Taliana on 53’, Gianluca Calabretta on 56’, an Andrea Hammett own goal on 63’ and Jake Scerri on 73’. Timmy Thomas scored a consolatio­n goal from the penalty spot in injury time.

Gudja United also continued their promotion hunt with an easy 2-0 victory over Attard in the second match at the Centenary Stadium on Saturday.

Joseph Chetcuti and Ronnie Celeste scored the winning goals on 11 and 61 minutes respective­ly. Siggiewi registered a surprise victory over Marsaxlokk when they beat the Southseasi­ders by the same scoreline in the first match at the Luxol Stadium on Sunday. Eman Ciappara and Ryan Darmanin did the honours on 31 and 71 minutes.
