Msida return to winning ways

Msida St Joseph returned to winning ways with an emphatic 5-0 victory over Marsaskala in the first match at the Sirens Stadium on Saturday.

A hat trick by Christian Toro Perdomo on 22’, 52’ and 76’ was complement­ed by strikes from Matthew Borg on 27’ and Darren Bartoli on 39’.

Dingli Swallows beat Zurrieq in a close encounter in the first match at the Charles Abela Stadium on Sunday.

Karl Cilea put Dingli ahead on 33 minutes with Robert Ciantar doubling the score eight minutes from time. Ryan Farrugia scored a consolatio­n goal for Zurrieq on 88 minutes.

Xghajra Tornadoes kept third spot with a victory over Mtarfa in the first match at the Luxol Stadium on Saturday.

A hat trick by Royter Degiorgio on 33, 41 and 90 minutes saw the Tornadoes off with Chris Farrugia reducing the deficit for Mtarfa on 50 minutes.

Kirkop United also remained in the playoff hunt with a 2-0 win over Ghaxaq in the second match at the same stadium on Saturday. The goals came from Ayrton Buhagiar after just 4 minutes and Karl Caruana on 32 minutes.

St Venera L. confirmed top spot with a relatively easy 5-0 victory over Mdina Knights although the result was flattering for the Lightnings. The goals came from the usual Eddie Wilemanon 12’and 70’, Yan Mun Law on 20’, Jonathan Micallef on 38’ and Luca Bugeja on 44’.

Mellieha also confirmed second spot with a 6-0 thrashing of Ta’ Xbiex at the Charles Abela Stadium on Sunday. Here the goals came courtesy of Jean Scholey on 28’, a brace by Bryan Bautista on 38’and 45’, Ryan Sciberras 58’, Gilbert Camilleri 70 and a penalty by Lydon Micallef on 82’
