Żurrieq had an easy task to beat Siġġiewi who are in ninth position from ten having only 6 points from 9 games while Żurrieq are in fourth position on 16 points also from 9 games.

During both periods Żurrieq enjoyed the lion’s share of exchanges.

The first action came from Żurrieq as a flag kick by Javier Farrugia was cleared away with difficulty and at the other end after a flag kick by Gabriel Chircop, Kyle Demicoli drove out from inside the area.

In the 21st minute Żurrieq opened the score when Luke Scicluna dribbled past an opponent outside the area and he scored with a hard rising shot past Siġġiewi keeper Daniel Chircop. Żurrieq kept pressing and mounted three more actions before the break.

Javier Farrugia missed the bar by inches after dribbling past an opponent outside the area.

Jaydon Formosa dribbled past an opponent on the left flank who then crossed to Gary Farrugia and his header missed the upright from the edge of the area and Ashton Mizzi drove over the bar from outside the area after pouncing on a faulty clearance.

Siġġiewi mounted the first action after the resumption as Jacob Schembri missed the upright by inches after dribbling past an opponent outside the area, at the other end, Gareth Cassar released substitute Francesco Zahra in the area and Chircop foiled him with a timely sortie as he dived at his feet to smother the ball.

Żurrieq doubled their lead in the 40th minute with a rising shot by Javier Farrugia from 40 metres after dribbling past an opponent, and in another two actions, substitute Omar Osman served Luke Scicluna in the area but he drove over the bar from a very good position and a Javier Farrugia flag kick created havoc in Siġġiewi’s area and the ball was cleared with difficulty.

In a Siġġiewi action substitute Idrick Schembri was fouled on the right flank and the free kick by Larken Cini was easily headed away.

The pressing from Żurrieq resumed as they scored a third goal in the 56th minute.

Javier Farrugia released Scicluna in the area and a defender cleared the ball to a corner and after Javier Farrugia’s flag kick Gary Farrugia scored with a header from inside the area.

Four minutes later the score became 4-0 as Gary Farrugia scored with another header following a flag kick by Javier Farrugia.

A minute before the final whistle Gareth Cassar served Amir Amhamed in the area and Chircop saved his hard grounder.
