Malta’s first global data centre inaugurated

-

Prime Minister Joseph Muscat officially opened Malta’s first global data centre at the Enemalta underground installations in Marsa.

During the launch, which took place on Thursday, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said that just five years ago Enemalta was treated as a major risk and threat to the economy, suffering major losses. However, he said, through sustained effort and commitment of Enemalta employees, the corporation is now in a situation where agencies like Standard and Poor’s confirmed that Enemalta made a great turnaround to a more sustainable and profitable position.

Preparing the right infrastructure as well as other factors are important for Malta to become a hub for digital innovation and such investments will further enhance Malta’s presence in the technology and innovation industries. The Prime Minister remarked that Streamcast will find the required talent to continue to grow its business ventures in Malta.

Muscat added that this facility will offer a new opportunity to the country and will re-confirm the progress made through the past few years. This project was yet a seal of approval that as a country we are doing everything we can to ensure growth and to remain relevant in a fast-paced, digital world.

With an initial investment of €5 million in this facility, the project has the potential to become the second-largest investment in Enemalta’s past five years.
