Qormi celebrate title with hard earned victory

New champions Qormi were made to fight by a gallant San Gwann side on their celebration afternoon. However Qormi deserved their victory yesterday to start their celebrations in the best way possible.
At the end of the match MFA’ s Ludovico Micallef presneted captain Alessio Cassar with the champions trophy as the numerous and loyal Qormi supporters continued with their celebrations for a more than deserved title win.
Qormi’s first attempt came on seven minutes when Saliorli’s shot was partially saved by Andrea Camilleri and from the rebound Michael Camilleri shot incredibly over the bar. Qormi were constantly on the attack but Godwin henshaw at the other end alomost deceieved the Qormi rearguard but his shot went just wide.
On 15 minutes Qormi were rather unlucky when a Luke Busuttil shot slammed against the crossbar and from the rebound Dejan Vukovic’s shot was blocked by Camilleri. Three minutes later Qormi were in front when Tensior Gusman scored a beauty from an acute angle.
But two minutes later San Gwann drew level when Adamec’s header for goalkeeper Azzopardi proved to be an assist for Henshaw who rounded off the goalkeeper before putting at the back of the net.
Qormi again hit the crossbar on 34 minutes when an overhead kick by Gusman was deflected by Gauci with the ball finishing against the woodwork. San Gwann dominated the remaining minutes with their striker Godwin Henshaw twice denied by the Qormi custodian.
The second was less intense even though Qormi still held the upper hand. On 71 minutes Qormi regained the lead when San gwann goalkeeper Camilleri fumbled an Adamec freekick and from the rebound substitute Iven Zammit slotted home.
