Police examining ‘all allegations currently being made in the media’

- ■ Kevin Schembri Orland

The police have said that they are examining “all the allegations currently being made in the media.” This was the official response to questions sent by The Malta Independent regarding the recent Daphne Project articles surrounding OPM chief of staff Keith Schembri and Tourism Minister Konrad Mizzi.

The questions were sent soon after the recent news stories in relation to two aforementioned persons broke.

The Daphne Project has so far published emails showing links between 17 Black and the two offshore Panamanian companies owned by Keith Schembri and Konrad Mizzi; reported that that Pilatus Bank was used to “move millions around Europe” by a network of “over 50 companies and trusts secretly owned by Azerbaijan’s ruling elite;” and said that Nexia BT ‘withheld’ information from FIAU.

It has also claimed that Economy Minister Chris Cardona had been seen in a bar in Siġġiewi with one of the three men accused of murdering Daphne Caruana Galizia and met with the same person the day prior to his arrest.

The Malta Independent had asked the police whether they will launch an investigation into the revelations regarding Keith Schembri and Konrad Mizzi following the recent revelations in their regard.

In an official response, the police said: “The Malta Police Force is examining all articles being published in the media regarding recent allegations in relation to the Daphne Project.”

Schembri and Mizzi have been at the centre of controversy since the original Panama Papers articles began to emerge, showing that they had opened companies in the secretive jurisdiction of Panama.
