Jurgen Balzan semi-finalist in the Major of Italy, Bologna 2018

The Major of Italy – Bologna 2018 was organised last weekend at the Palasavena sports complex.

The individual competitions were held on Saturday were 6 Maltese players participated.

In the Open category Tristan Fenech played until the group phase, Massimo Cremona made it to the last 32 and was beater by Simone Bertelli 1-0 and Derek Conti made it to the last 16 when he lost his match against Daniele Bertelli 2-1. The winner of the open category was the Spanish player Carlos Flores.

In the Veteran category John Zammit played until the group phase and Jason Pisani played the play offs after the group phase. The winner of the Veteran category was the Italian Gerardo Patruno.

Jurgen Balzan was semifinalist in the Under 19 category and the winner of the category was the Italian Luca Riccio.

Team competitions were held on Sunday. Valletta Subbuteo Club was the only club from Malta. The team was composed of Derek Conti, Joseph Borg Bonaci, Emanuel Camilleri and their Belgian player Pascal Scheen.

Valletta Subbuteo Club made it to the last 16 and were beaten by the Belgian team Rocheforte Ts 10. Tristan Fenech and John Zammit were playing with their Greek team Piraeus Lions, Massimo Cremona with the Italian Team Reggio Emilia, Jason Pisani with his Italian team Master San Remo and Jurgen Balzan with his Italian team Black & Blue Pisa which made it to the semifinals. The winning team was SC Fiamme Azzurre.
