Boateng, Lewandowski set to stay at Bayern
New Bayern Munich boss Niko Kovac has warned Juventus that Jerome Boateng and Robert Lewandowski are to stay at Bayern Munich.
Kovac was officially unveiled by Bayern yesterday, but the Croatian immediately had to fend off questions about the pair, who have been linked with Juventus in recent weeks.
“Boateng? He’ll stay with us. I’ve already talked to him,” he affirmed.
Meanwhile Kovac wants star striker Robert Lewandowski to stay with the Bundesliga giants.
“He has a contract with Bayern until 2021 and he’ll stay because he’s an important element for our club.”
The 29-year-old has been linked with a move away from the Allianz Arena after his agent said in May that the Poland international “needs a change”.
Kovac - who joined Bayern on a three-year deal from Eintracht Frankfurt - inherits eight players who formed part of the Germany squad that sensationally crashed out at the first-round stage of the World Cup for the first time since 1938.
While conceding that he is disappointed with the national team’s shock early exit, he does not think it will have a lingering impact on his players when they return for pre-season training.
Meanwhile, Bayern are reported to be showing interest in signing Anthony Martial from Manchester United.
They are thought to be willing to pay £70m to land his signature.
