Rare weekend of obsession
Teatru Manoel is dedicating a whole weekend to an in-house Maltesespoken production collaborated with Grokk Teatru, a theatrical company which comes with several awards in their luggage, among which “Best Production Overall” at the Malta International Theatre Festival of 2016.
BAXX BAXX is inspired by a book named ‘Kulħadd ħalla isem warajh’ written by Malta’s famous author, Clare Azzopardi which revolves around four particular characters living in a surreal world, depicting the obsession relationship which humans can have with things.
But, what happens when these characters are shocked by a drastic change in their ordinary lives?
Obsession stands out in their relationships and their perspective of life changes according to the changes occuring.
One of the four actors, Raquel Theuma, explains; “I remember the first time we met as a whole cast, we only had a book, a concept and an idea with which we had to create this piece called ‘Baxx Baxx’.”
Directed by Antonella Mifsud and André Agius, this production holds a myriad of thoughts surrounding obsession and surrealism, which you can continue reading about on Teatru Manoel and Grokk Teatru’s Facebook pages.
Monique Dimech Genuis, closes by stating; “We worked very well together and thanks to this, we managed to create something which, I’m hoping will be appreciated by our audience.”
The three performances start at 9pm and take place at Teatru Manoel on the 21st, 22nd and 23rd July. Tickets are bought from the section Upcoming Events on www.teatrumanoel.com.mt, through an email on bookings@teatrumanoel.com.mt or by calling tel: 2124 6389. Age: 14+.
