T he Honorary Consul of the Republic of Croatia, Dr Juliana Scerri Ferrante, hosted a reception to celebrate Croatian National Day on 19th June at Fortress Building, Valletta.

Two hours before the reception started, at 7pm, Minister Evarist Bartolo opened a joint exhibition by the Malta Chamber of Fashion and the Consulate of the Republic of Croatia. This was soon followed by a talk by Croatian designer Matija Cop and Maltese designer James Dimech to MCAST students and students from secondary schools.

The students then enjoyed the exhibition of clothes and also the paintings of Croatian artist Lena Kramaric.

Guests started arriving for the reception at 7pm. These included Ambassador Jasen Mesic and later the President of Malta.

The Klapa singers livened the evening with their songs and were very much appreciated by the guests.

Klapa singing is a multipart singing tradition of the southern Croatian regions of Dalmatia. Multipart singing, a capella homophonic singing, oral tradition and simple music making are its main features.

A short video of Croatia was followed by a speech by the Hon. Consul of the Republic of Croatia, Dr Juliana Scerri Ferrante. The ambassador of the Republic of Croatia followed with a speech. A toast was then proposed and the President of Malta delivered her speech.

The light display on Grand Harbour courtesy of the Malta Tourism Authority was very much appreciated and enjoyed.

The evening, on a balmy summer’s night. was enjoyed and guests were almost reluctant to go home and bring it to an end.
