Air Malta carries 27% more passengers in July

-

The month of July Air Malta registered a 27 percent increase in passengers on its Malta based routes compared to the corresponding month last year, the airline said yesterday.

During this month, a total of 228,982 passengers were carried by Air Malta to and from Malta.

Air Malta was last month the one of the main contributors to the growth registered by Malta International Airport.

During July the Maltese airline carried over 8,000 passengers on its Catania-Vienna, Catania – London Southend and Cagliari – London Southend routes.

Air Malta’s Chief Commercial Officer, Paul Sies, said, “Month on month we are seeing double digit growth figures. Our growth strategy that saw us expand our services to 21 new markets, is bearing fruit. Forward bookings continue to remain strong for summer but we need to continue selling the additional capacity we floated on the market.”

Air Malta’s Chairman Charles Mangion added, “We are happy with these results that show that for the third consecutive month we have increased passengers substantially. Apart from increasing our revenues we need to maintain focus on our costs such as fuel prices which have continued to increase this year.”

Tourism Minister Konrad Mizzi said: “During the last seven months Air Malta has carried over 200,000 more passengers on its Malta based routes and an additional 25,000 passengers on its intra -European services between Sicily, Sardinia and London Southend. The objective of growing the airline is being achieved and as the main shareholder we are encouraged with these results. Together with all tourism stakeholders we are working hard to continue achieving success in the tourism industry for the benefit of the whole Maltese economy.”
