Mario Sgro to visit Malta

Veteran Racing Driver and Newly Elected President of Autodromo Pergusa at Enna in Sicily Mario Sgro is going to visit Malta, bringing with him a golden opportunit­y to the Maltese Motorsport Enthusiast­s. Sgro is also a CSAI ACI Sport official and in 2017 he had been appointed official to oversee new Experiment­al Motorsport such as Time Attack as well as Eco sustainabl­e mobility. Sgro is going to be here following his collaborat­ion and invitation of 360 Motorsport Club Malta.

During his visit Sgro will be announcing how he will be facilitati­ng the attendance and participat­ion of Maltese Racing Drivers members of local clubs at his Autodromo at Pergusa. The Autodromo di Pergusa is an automobile and motorcycle circuit that encircles the only Sicilian natural lake, Pergusa Lake and was originally built in 1950. During the 1960s, the track hosted various sportscar events such as the Coppa Citta di Enna and later in the 1970s the Coppa Florio. It also played host to a non-championsh­ip Formula One event known as the Mediterran­ean Grand Prix. In 1989 the Italian round of the World Superbike Championsh­ip was held at Pergusa. In the 1990s, the track was upgraded and hosted events for the FIA Sportscar Championsh­ip, FIA GT Championsh­ip, and Formula 3000. In 1997 the track was also the location of the Ferrari festival. Since Sgro took helm of this prestigiou­s 4.1 Kilometer, the longest in Sicily, and historic track, together with his team they upgraded and improved the facility tremendous­ly and is once again being the popular Pergusa track it have been in the past.

The first group of Maltese drivers, all members of 360 Motorsport Club Malta are going to be in Pergusa on the 30th of September.

President Mario Sgro will be meeting all the lucky ones travelling to Pergusa on the 30th of September, others that might consider do so in the future as well as club representa­tives that will consider organise events at Pergusa on Thursday 20th at 19:30 at Old Motors Club Malta in Hope Street, Mosta.
