A Concert for Choir, Organ and Orchestra - Gloria! 20 Years of Choral Harmony

On the occasion of the 20th Anniversar­y of its foundation, the St Paul Choral Society, one of Malta’s leading polyphonic choirs, will present a choral and orchestral concert at St John’s Co-Cathedral in Valletta and St Paul’s Anglican Pro-Cathedral, both venues in Valletta. The concerts will be held on Friday and Saturday 19th and 20th October, at 7.30pm respective­ly. The Programme will be divided in 3 parts. Part 1 will start off with A. Vivaldi – Gloria (RV589). Part 2 consists of 2 Organ pieces, namely F. Mendelssoh­n – Finale, from Organ Sonata No. 1 in F minor and C. Saint-Saëns – Poco adagio, from the Organ Symphony. The concert continues with Part 3, consisting of excerpts from various choral works performed by SPCS in Malta or on its numerous tours abroad. L. Vierne – Kyrie, from Messe Solennelle, G. Fauré – Cantique de Jean Racine, G. Fauré – Sanctus and In paradisum from Requiem G. Fauré, C. Scerri – Regina Coeli, from Oratorio San Gregorio Magno, J. Stainer – God so loved the world, from The Crucifixio­n, G. F. Handel – Zadok the Priest (1st Coronation Anthem), W. A. Mozart – Ave verum, C. V. Stanford – Te Deum in B flat major. The soloists will be Rosabelle Bianchi (soprano), Claire Massa (mezzosopra­no), Connie Frances Zerafa (contralto), Elisabeth Conrad (organ), James Zammit (orchestra leader) and Hugo Agius Muscat (director). Concert duration: around 90 minutes.

The concert on the 19th October at St John’s Co-Cathedral will be in aid of Hospice Malta whilst the concert on the 20th October at St Paul’s Anglican Pro-Cathedral will be in aid of St Paul’s Anglican Pro-Cathedral Restoratio­n Appeal. Tickets are on sale at www.showshappe­ning.com
