Lacazette, Aubameyang shine as Arsenal crushes Fulham 5-1

-

Two goals each from Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang led rampant Arsenal to a 5-1 thrashing of Fulham in the English Premier League on Sunday.

Arsenal went into the game at Craven Cottage in confident mood after a run of five straight league victories and took the lead after 29 minutes when Lacazette started and finished a sweeping move.

He fed Alex Iwobi on the left before latching on to a cross from Nacho Monreal and turning to drive the ball low into the net.

Fulham, the only top-flight side without a clean sheet this season, leveled 15 minutes later when Monreal needlessly gave the ball away and Andre Schuerrle dinked the ball over Bernd Leno as the goalkeeper rushed out.

The visitors, though, were back in front four minutes into the second half when Lacazette volleyed the ball home from 20 yards (meters).

Arsenal manager Unai Emery brought on Aaron Ramsey in the 69th minute and within 40 seconds the Wales midfielder brilliantly made it 3-1.

Ramsey flicked the ball into the net from behind his body after another superb passing move that also featured an impudent mid-air backheel from Hector Bellerin.

Bellerin then set up the fourth goal when his right-wing cross was pounced upon by Aubameyang, who swivelled before lashing the ball into the net from close range.

Aubameyang completed the rout with a long-range drive in stoppage time.

Hazard leads Chelsea to 3-0 win at Southampton

Belgium playmaker Eden Hazard kept up his red-hot form with one goal and an assist to inspire Chelsea to a convincing 3-0 victory against Southampton in the Premier League on Sunday.

Unbeaten Chelsea, playing in an unfamiliar pale blue kit with orange socks, made a bright start at St. Mary's and was unfortunate not to be awarded a penalty when Wesley Hoedt fouled Olivier Giroud.

Southampton could have taken the lead against the run of play, but Danny Ings blazed the ball wildly over after good work down the left by former Chelsea defender Ryan Bertrand.

Chelsea went ahead on the halfhour when Ross Barkley, who was recalled to the England squad midweek, did well to win possession in midfield and set up the unmarked Hazard to fire the ball past Alex McCarthy for his seventh league goal of the season.

Barkley then added the second goal, his first for the club, from tapin range after Giroud produced an acrobatic cross-shot following a free kick by Willian.

Southampton tried to stage a late rally and visiting goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga had to pull off two finger-tip saves to deny Ings and Nathan Redmond.

Chelsea had the final word, though, as the irrepressible Hazard sent Alvaro Morata clean through and the substitute chipped the ball over McCarthy.

Stuttgart fires coach Korkut after lackluster start

Stuttgart has fired coach Tayfun Korkut and his assistants Ilija Aracic and Steven Cherundolo after the side's poor start in the Bundesliga.

Losing to previously bottom Hannover 3-1 on Saturday left Stuttgart last in the league after seven games.

Former Germany defender Andreas Hinkel was to take over on an interim basis.

Korkut took over in January when Stuttgart was struggling under previous coach Hannes Wolf. He led it from 14th place to seventh and the club was optimistic the side could build on that momentum.

Sporting director Michael Reschke says, "The negative results triggered us to take this step. Tayfun Korkut took charge of the team in a very difficult situation last season and secured our top-flight status early on, with an exceptional run. For that, we are extremely thankful to him and his assistant coaches."

Kicker magazine reports former Schalke coach Markus Weinzierl is the favorite to take charge permanently, though Ralph Hasenhuettl and Markus Gisdol are also candidates.

Higuain strikes twice to help Milan beat Chievo 3-1

Gonzalo Higuain struck twice and Suso completed a hat-trick of assists for Jack Bonaventura, but 39-year-old Sergio Pellissier got a consolation for Chievo.

Alessio Romagnoli pulled out

with a muscular problem, so with Mattia Caldara, Andrea Conti and Ivan Strinic injured, it fell to Cristian Zapata for his first Serie A appearance of the season.

Chievo missed Emanuele Giaccherini, Fabrizio Cacciatore, Nenad Tomovic and Filip Djordjevic, so surprisingly gave 39-year-old Sergio Pellissier his first start of 2018.

Franck Kessie tested Stefano Sorrentino early doors with a cushioned volley at the back post, while Ignazio Abate risked an own goal with his header back to Gianluigi Donnarumma, who was in part blinded by the bright sunlight.
