Servizz.gov selected as Best National Digital Solution for international World Summit Awards 2018
Servizz.gov was nominated as Best National Digital Solution for Malta for the international World Summit Awards. The World Summit Awards are a global initiative selecting digital innovation making positive impact on society. With this nomination, servizz.gov qualifies for evaluation among over 400 international projects by the WSA Jury 2018.
Servizz.gov is the agency bringing all government services together. It is a bridge between the Public Service of Malta and the general public, making government services more accessible. It makes life easier and saves time. It does away with travelling to offices in Valletta and elsewhere.
The first three hubs opened in Paola, Birkirkara and Qawra, and another two in Vittoriosa and Qormi followed in 2016. Servizz.gov has its own freephone number 153 and its own website hosting more than the Malta Police Corps which deals exclusively with environmental crime, and the changes in legislation which have weakened nature protection in Malta, in particular, the protection of birds.
Another reason, Birdlife Malta mentioned, is that the Government does not have the courage to restrain these illegalities and is staying silent. They also said that not only hunter have a vote in Malta but also others who have an environmental conscious. The latter, which are a substantial amount of citizens, are being ignored they said.
BirdLife Malta also mentioned the Wildlife Crime Unit which will be equipped specially to handle these cases. It said that the ORNIS Committee, the advisory body on hunting and trapping season, forwarded the proposal for a dedicated police unit on wildlife crime together with the Wild Birds Regulation Unit to the 800 government services. Some of these same services are mobile accessible while others even have their own mobile app.
The WSA nominees 2018 show the richness, diversity, and innovation of digital solutions on a global scale and prove how digital technology can improve society in each corner of the world.
The WSA 2018 nominees will be evaluated based on seven fundamental criteria which are content, functionality, design, technology, innovation, impact and Global/UN value.
Each year, WSA nominees are selected by the WSA National Experts from more than 180 UN member states. The WSA National Experts nominate up to eight projects for each country, one for every WSA category.
A nomination to the WSA is already an award in itself as it signifies the qualification to compete and be presented on an international level and being the best practice nationally.
