Stephen Sultana appointed new Chairman of Trade Malta

Stephen Sultana has been appointed as the new Chairman of Trade Malta, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Trade Promotion has announced.

Trade Malta is a public-private partnershi­p between the Government of Malta and the Malta Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry dedicated to helping Malta-based businesses go internatio­nal. Trade Malta offers a range of services tailored to the needs of companies that are planning to make that first step into the world of internatio­nalisation, from assessing the markets to honing their product.

Trade Malta also provides specialise­d training programmes in internatio­nal business developmen­t and marketing, administer­s a number of incentives schemes and internatio­nalisation programmes, and promotes worldwide business opportunit­ies.

Stephen Sultana has over 20 years’ experience related to internatio­nal trade and investment and has occupied various senior positions in both the public and private sectors. He also provided advisory and consulting services related to internatio­nal business to various companies and organisati­ons in Malta and abroad.

Mr Sultana graduated with a B.A. (Hons) from the University of Malta in 1986 and an M.B.A. from the University of Bath in 1988. He started his career with Malta’s national investment promotion agency formerly known as the Malta Developmen­t Corporatio­n and later joined the Malta External Trade Corporatio­n where he served as General Manager/CEO for several years before leaving the organizati­on to join the private sector.

In 2006 he joined Simonds Farsons Cisk plc as Head of Internatio­nal Business, responsibl­e for spearheadi­ng the company’s internatio­nalisation drive. Mr Sultana has served as a director on Trade Malta Ltd since its inception.

The ministry thanked David Curmi, previous Chairman of Trade Malta, for the sterling work that he has carried out over the past few years, to ensure Trade Malta’s long-term success, based on a clearly-defined vision, mission, and set of goals.
