Demand for electricity reaches record on Tuesday

-

The demand for electricity supply on Tuesday reached 510MW, which is the highest level ever recorded by Enemalta plc, the company said yesterday.

This is an increase of slightly less than 5% when compared to the highest ever rate registered before, namely that of 488MW in August 2017. The demand for electricity supply was 15% higher than the demand registered in the same period during the past two years.

Over the last two days various locations experienced disruptions to their electricity supply due to the said increase in the demand that was a result of the far above average temperatures registered in the Malta, for this period.

These interruptions, which were localised, were not related to each other, Enemalta said.

Enemalta said many of these interruptions were resolved in a relatively short time. In fact, supply was back to normal after ten minutes in 80% of cases, it said.

During these interruptions there were no issues registered with the generation systems. These facilities were available all the time and were not the cause of any disruptions.

While Enemalta apologised for any inconvenience caused, the company said it will continue investing in its distribution system to further improve the quality of service offered to its clients.

Enemalta will continue to keep extra personnel on its emergency teams to be able to handle issues as they arise until the current weather situation persists.

Enemalta informed the public that any updates will be provided on its Facebook page, and that people experiencing any difficulties should contact the company on its freephone number: 8007 2224.
