Hibernians fancy their chances when facing Shakhtyor

- ■ Henry Brincat

Hibernians are fancying their chances of advancing to the second qualifying round when they face Shakhtyor Soligorsk of Belarus in the 2nd leg of their tie.

To advance, the Paolites need to beat the Belarusians by a two-goal margin. In fact, Shakhtyor had won the first leg at home 1-0.

Playing at home now in front of their own fans, the Paolites are confident of beating their opponents.

However, they will have to keep their feet to the ground and need total concentration from start to finish to be able to reach their target.

The match, at the Centenary Stadium, kicks off at 8pm.

FC Shakhtyor Soligorsk is a Belarusian Premier League football club, playing in the city of Soligorsk.

Gzira and Balzan also playing 2nd legs today

Gzira United and Balzan will also be in action this evening as they play their second legs of their ties.

The Maroons will be facing Croatia’s Hajduk in the Adriatic Sea town of Split. The Croatians won last week’s 1st leg match in Malta 2-0 and are firm favourites to advance to the next round of the competition. The match kicks off at 8pm.

The Balzan-Domzale match in Slovenia is to commence at 8.45pm.

The first match in Malta last week was a seven-goal thriller with Balzan unluckily finishing on the losing end 4-3.

Despite the adverse result, Balzan still have hopes of being able to beat their opponents, though it is obvious they face an uphill task.

In fact, to qualify, they need to beat their opponents by a two-goal margin.
