Etienne Bonello and Marie Claire Aquilina win the first Time Trial Race of 2019

The Malta Cycling Federation time trial national championsh­ip continued with the second round on Sunday 21st July 2019 with the race at the Mtarfa By-pass. A complete success from Team Greens as Etienne Bonello and Marie Claire Aquilina clock the fastest times in the Elite and ladies category.

In fact Etienne Bonello made his eight laps in 30:46.20. He was followed respective­ly by Mark Zammit of Mosta AF Sign Studio CC in 31:09.49 and Clive Ebejer of Team Greens CC finished third in 31:10.12.

Marie Claire Aquilina of Team Greens again finished first in the Women's category when she made her eight laps in 33:43.37. Lara Buttigieg (35:25.52) and Michelle Vella Wood (39:31.79) completed an all Green podium.

The new Under-23 category was once again won by Bernard Sant of Mosta AF Sign Studio CC in 32:31.42. Brandon Sultana of Gozo CC finished behind him in 33:35.33 and Isaac Spiteri of The Cyclists ended third in 34:12.79.

Luke Borg The Cyclists continues with another victory ended up winning in the Junior category at a time of 33:51.96. Behind him finished respective­ly two cyclists of Mosta AF Sign Studio CC, Max Zammit (35:22.94) and Sean Enriquez (35:23.28).

The Masters 40+ category was won for another time by Ivan Zammit of Birkirkara St. Joseph SC in 32:34.88. Nicholas Schembri of Mosta AF Sign Studio CC ends up second in 33:22.34, while Malcolm Cachia of The Cyclist came third in 33:36.24.

The Under-16 Boys category saw an all Mosta AF Sign Studio CC podium as Matthew Galea Pirotta completed his six laps in 25:30.11. Behind him came his colleagues Jacob Schembri (25:49.11) and Michael Sean Darmanin (28:56.46). Kristina Spiteri of The Cyclists (29:00.67) won the same female category.

The Under-14 Boys category was won again by Miguel Galea of The Cyclists CC completing his four laps in 17:37.06. Behind him clocked teammate Kai Azzopardi (19:18.60), while Luca Vella of B'Kara St.Joseph SC came third (20:22.08). Hannah Dandria of Mosta AF Sign Studio CC won the same female category in 21:08.

The Under 12 Boys category was won by Jonas Micallef of Mosta AF Sign Studio CC making his one lap in 05:15.00. Keith Sultana of Gozo CC came second in 05:22.00 and Luca Teuma of Mosta AF Sign Studio CC third in 05:35.00.

The same girls’ category was won by Kate Vella (Team Greens) in 08:08.00.

At the end of races, John Zammit and Joe Bajada, President and General Secretary of the Malta Cycling Federation made the medals presentati­ons to the winners.

The next race will be at 6.00pm this Saturday 26th July 2019, the third and last of three round of the Time Trial Championsh­ip at San Martin.
