Gozo University Group elects new executive

-

The Gozo University Group held its AGM on the 18th of August 2019, and elected their new executive.

During this meeting the amendments to the current statute were also proposed and approved. A roundup of the past year’s events was also made.

During the AGM, chaired by Maria Dimech who has advanced as the new official GUG Lawyer, the previous executive members reported on their respective roles and events carried out throughout the year; challenging but successful events. The President, Rachel Galea, spoke about this year’s feats they had accomplished as a group, and the importance of communication and group work. Galea’s time as President of the GUG organisation has concluded, however taking her place is Renée Formosa. She has worked side-byside with Galea as Vice President.

The statute was amended through a unanimous vote, leading to the AGM’s change in the appendix with the new GUG logo. The statute’s amendments also led to the establishment of a new role, the MCAST Representative, which has been created to suit the needs of the MCAST Gozitan students.

This decision was made since as a Gozitan group, they felt that they needed to use their influence to assist others.

“However, due to the lack of connections between us and the MCAST administration board, this was a difficult task. With this new role, this hurdle could be easily tackled.”

Christoph Caruana, Maria Azzopardi, Rachel Galea were appointed positions on the Vigilance Board. Since there were no candidates contesting for the same position within the executive, no elections were needed. The GUG’s new executive is: Renée Formosa as President, Charlene Scerri as Vice-President, Samuel Buttigieg as General Secretary, Mark Farrugia as Information Secretary, Chris Mercieca as Events Officer, Lorie-Emm Spiteri as Education Officer, Carlos Cini as Public Relations Officer, Joseph Mercieca as Social Policy Officer, Elaine Haber as Social Media Officer, Estelle Scicluna as Financial Officer, Sean Grech as Marketing Officer,Oleg Grech as International Officer, and Owen Teuma as MCAST Representative.
