Emerging technologies at the Delta Summit
For this year’s Malta’s leading Digital Innovation Summit, we returned bigger and better. MITA was present during the Delta Summit and we have worked hard and vigorously to make sure that we provide one of the best experiences, to those who were attending this highly awaited event.
This year, our stand was composed of two storeys, involving a number of emerging technologies and the specific stations for human resources and cyber security. The set-up of emerging technologies involved virtual reality and augmented reality headsets, a station demonstrating the application of microcontrollers combined with 3d printing and stations dedicated to using Artificial Intelligence such as emotion recognition.
Last year we had a high volume of people visiting our stand, who wanted to experience, hands-on, the technologies we had prepared. This year, in addition to last year’s Augmented and Virtual Reality headsets, we added more new and exciting things, for those who visited our stand.
The emerging technologies that were available on our stand during the Delta Summit, are managed by the MITA Emerging Technologies Lab. We brought a fraction of the Lab to Delta as it is impossible for all the people attending the Summit, to come to the Lab all at once. We continuously strive to raise awareness, amongst different audiences, to not only consume technology, but more effectively, create it. This was a great opportunity that could not be overlooked because it enabled great outreach to a vast audience. By bringing the Lab to Delta, we showed the potential of emerging technologies through the different applications.
The audiences for events of this nature and size are always so vast, and to no one’s surprise, students attend as well. A large number of students from an IT area of studies, visited our stand. We were also available for these students who are doing their dissertations or projects involving the different technologies. If interested, they can contact and meet with us to discuss, how we can help with their ideas for projects and dissertation in these areas. Aside from tinkering with emerging technologies, this is another purpose behind the lab.
We are very pleased with the great turnout we experienced and the positive feedback we received from the participants. During both days at the Delta Summit, people who visited our stand and tried the emerging technologies were completely immersed in the experience and they were also asking good questions, which we were more than happy to answer. Parliamentary Secretary Hon. Silvio Schembri and Entrepreneur and Fintech Expert Dr. Abdalla Kablan also visited our stand, where he also sat for an interview.
Last year, Delta saw a successful launch and MITA employees really enjoyed the entire event. This year, even more so. Hopefully, those who came to our stand and showed interest to collaborate, will lead to more knowledge sharing on emerging technologies, which will in turn serve as motivation to tinker with technology.
