Portugal stunned by Ukraine as England crush Bulgaria in Sofia

England took Bulgaria by storm yesterday winning 6-0 in Sofia. They had already wrapped up the match by the end of the first half during which they scored four goals.

Marcus Rashford paved the way with a goal on the 7th minute. Two more from Ross Barkley on 20 and 32 minutes put them firmly in command before Raheem Sterling added a fourth in the 45th minute. The same player then added a fifth goal in the 69th minute. Harry Kane added his name to the scorers’ list in the 85th minute.

In the Group’s other match, Kosovo kept their slim chances alive with a useful 2-0 win against Montenegro. Their goals were scored by Amir Rrahmani in the 10th minute and Vedat Muriqi in the 34th.

They now await the direct clash against the Czech Republic next month.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 700th career goal but couldn’t keep Portugal from losing 2-1 to Ukraine in qualifying .

Ukraine qualified with the victory, its sixth in seven matches in Group B. Portugal remains in second place and will need to keep battling for its spot in the remaining rounds.

Serbia kept their chances alive with a 0-2 away win against Lithuania.

Their two goals were scored by Alexandr Mitrovic in the space of five minutes early in the second half.

Turkey and France took a point apiece from a 1-1 draw in Paris. They now have 19 points each, but Iceland remained in contention with a 2-0 win against Andorra.

Oliver Giroud put France ahead in the 76th minute, but Turkey replied six minutes later through Kaan Ayhan.

Iceland’s goals were scored by Arnor Sigurdsson and Kolbeinn Sigthorsso­n.

Albania scored a 4th win in the same group, beating bottom placed Moldova 4-0.
