Project is being carried out in collaboration with the Malta Basketball Association and the Malta Wheelchair Basketball Association

The Maltese Olympic Committee in collaboration with the Malta Basketball Association and the Malta Wheelchair Basketball Association today launched a campaign to promote 3x3 Basketball in schools.

This project will take place in the months of November and December.

The objective of the Campaign, which is part of the Maltese Olympic Committee Sports of All programme is to enable students to discover, learn and understand this emerging sport which will be part of the forthcoming Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and the 2023 Games of the Small States of Europe, which will be hosted in Malta.

Qualified international coaches will be running practice sessions on a professional 3x3 Basketball Court which will be purposely set up in a number of schools, which have accepted the Maltese Olympic Committee’s invitation to be part of this programme.

Whilst creating a unique sports experience, students will also benefit from the opportunity of practicing one of the newest Olympic Sport disciplines. The programme has also included 3x3 wheelchair basketball, which will enable students to not only experience a totally different dimension of basketball but also become more aware of the inclusivity and wide spectrum of sports.

“The response to this project has been very positive and well received. We are very excited at the prospect to give exposure to this new sport. The synergy between the Maltese Olympic Committee, the Malta Basketball and Malta Wheelchair Basketball Association has been tremendous which augurs well for the development of this sport in Malta” commented David Azzopardi, Director of Finance and Chairman of the Sports For All Commission within Maltese Olympic Committee.

The Project will see 3x3 Basketball introduced at St. Martin's College - Swatar, St. Elias College - Sta. Venera, Our Lady Immaculate School - Hamrun, Sacred Heart College, De La Salle College, St. Anton School - Mgarr, St. Joseph – Blata L-Bajda, St. Monica’s – Gzira, St. Aloysius College and St. George Preca Blata l-Bajda Middle School.
