Malta Motorsport Federation holds annual general meeting
On Friday the 8th of November, the Malta Motorsport Federation (MMF) held its annual general meeting at a hotel in Floriana. The President of the Federation, Mr. Tonio Cini during the reading of the annual report, pointed out that several meetings with the authorities were held with the authorities over the past year to try finding a solution to the rising costs to organize motorsport competitive events.
The Federation is also offering its assistance to the government to deliver its electoral promise. Mr. Cini added that once again the government has committed itself during the reading of the 2020 budget, the Government said that during 2020 he shall be able to take concrete steps on the racetrack.
The demands of Maltese drivers under the scheme of "International Participation Scheme" of SportMalta increased by more than 50% from 2015 to 2019. The system of distribution of assistance of this scheme is more equitable since a capping system was introduced by the Federation, in collaboration with SportMalta.
Outgoing Treasurer Mr. Pierre Sammut read the financial report. The report was approved by the members. Then the meeting moved on for the election of officers in the vacant positions. There were three posts to be filled; that of President, Secretary and that of Treasurer.
Mr. Jesmond Mangion successfully contested the post of Vice-President, Ms. Susanne Fenech was elected Secretary-General. No one contested the post of Treasurer; therefore, it was agreed that Mr. Pierre Sammut will continue to manage the finances of the Federation until the next Extraordinary General Meeting. The President of the Federation announced an extraordinary meeting to be called to fill the post of Treasurer and Vice Secretary, the latter was vacated when Mrs. Fenech was elected Secretary-General.
Probably the most important news during this meeting was that the Honourable, Member of Parliament, Dr. Manuel Mallia, present at the general meeting, offered his services as a legal adviser to the Federation. This news was accepted and approved unanim
