Emmanuel Zammit wins Horace Micallef trap trophy

Emanuel Zammit has made it to the top spot of the podium today, as he won the Horace Micallef Trap Trophy that was held at the Southern Shooting Club.

This was the first gold medal achievemen­t for Zammit since he started competing regularly in the Trap event under the supervisio­n of Aldo Falzon.

Until Sunday, his portfolio consisted of 3 silver and 3 bronze medals, as he managed to win 2 medals last year and 4 medals this year.

Stephen Vella and James Galea Jr. joined Emanuel Zammit on the podium as they finished in the second and third place respective­ly.

The six finalists in the Bib number order according to their qualificat­ion scores were:

James Galea Jr. with the score of 44/50, Michael Grech 43/50, Gozitan shooter Noel Attard managed 42/50, Stephen Vella hit 41/50 + 1 shoot-off, Raymond Micallef 41/50 + 0 + 5 shoot-off and Emanuel Zammit 41/50 + 0 + 4 shoot-off.

The finals results were:

1st Emanuel Zammit 20/25 + 2/5 + 5/5 + 4/5 + 10/10, total score 41/50

2nd Stephen Vella 18/25 + 4/5 + 3/5 + 4/5 + 5/10, total score 36/50

3rd James Galea Jr. 18/25 + 2/5 + 4/5 + 4/5, total score 28/40

4th Noel Attard 17/25 + 3/5 + 2/5, total score 22/35

5th Michael Grech 15/25 + 3/5, total score 18/30

6th Raymond Micallef 15/25, total score 15/25

The top three Shooters in their respective classes concluded their two qualificat­ion rounds with the following scores:

Class A

1st James Galea Jr. 44/50

2nd Stephen Vella 41/50 (Countback Rule)

3rd Emanuel Zammit 41/50

Class B

1st Michael Grech 43/50

2nd Noel Attard 42/50

3rd Raymond Micallef 41/50

Class C

1st Charles Briffa 40/50 2nd Keith Cauchi 38/50 3rd Vincent Cassar 37/50

In the meantime, Team Shotgun Malta is in Cyprus to compete at te ISSF World Cup in Nicosia. In the Skeet event Clive Farrugia and Bozhidar Vasilev Dimitrov will be in action today and tomorrow, while Brian Galea, William Chetcuti and Rudolph Zammit will be competing in the Trap Event tomorrow and on Thursday. The team is being supervised by John Mary Bugeja and by Francis Bugeja.

The MSSF Trap Programme continues on Sunday 15 March 2020 at the Malta National Shooting Ranges with the fourth Trap Tournament Shoot.
