People should be informed about Joseph Muscat’s questioning – PN

-

PN spokesperson for National Security and the Fight against Criminality Beppe Fenech Adami has called on the police to publish what transpired during former Prime Minister Joseph Muscat’s interrogation, stating that the public should be kept up-to-date on this issue.

Last Friday, Joseph Muscat, former Prime Minister and former Leader of the Labour Party, was questioned at the Police headquarters in connection with the assassination of Daphne Caruana Galizia, the direct involvement of Yorgen Fenech in this murder and the connections that the same Yorgen Fenech had with Muscat and former Chief of Staff Keith Schembri.

However, talking to journalists after emerging from the headquarters, he said that the police told him that he is not under investigation in connection with the Daphne Caruana Galizia murder case.

In a statement issued by the PN, Fenech Adami pointed out that Muscat still felt the need to be assisted by a lawyer because of the gravity of the case.

He added that with the appointment of a new Police Commissioner a few weeks ago, the people had been assured by the same Commissioner that he is committed to seeing that the Police Force maintains continuous contact and communication with the media and updates it on ongoing work.

“The call for the questioning of Joseph Muscat, Prime Minister until a few months ago and ‘under whose watch’ Daphne Caruana Galizia was killed, is an unprecedented story that shocked the country. In a normal country when you have a former Prime Minister questioned over a murder case, it is for the police themselves to inform the public of this dramatic development and explain what is happening. Four days after Muscat was questioned there has been no statement from the police. This silence on the part of the police worries the people.”

On a concluding note, he said that the Opposition insists that the police inform and update the public on what is happening.
