Josephine Borg and Kyle Camilleri triumph in the Silver Cup in Ten Pin Bowling

-

Borg and Camilleri emerged worthy winners in this year’s edition of the Silver Cup held at the Eden Super Bowl, which as usual was highly contested in both female and male categories.

Bonnici Group team mates and 15 year old youths Kathryn Fenech and Ruslana Grima placed 1st and second in the qualification round, and were joined by Jospehine Borg, Rachel Chircop, Jessica Farrugia and young Mia Bugeja. Unfortunately for both Fenech and Grima, the round robin did not go so well, and were overtaken by Borg, who also bowled a great 235 game, and Chircop both winning 4 games. They were also overtaken by Farrugia who played steadily to climb up to 3rd place.

Farrugia and Chircop, 2 Special Olympics bowlers, faced each other in the semifinal match. Farrugia took the honours to then face Borg, who was however determined to not let this opportunity slip out of her fingers and defeated Farrugia 181-169 in the final.

The male event was even more hotly contested. The top 6 were Melvin Galea with a superb 193 scratch average, followed by 2 youths, Sam Bugeja and under 12 bowler Nicolai Mallia. Nicholas Falzon qualified 4th ahead of Matthew Muscat, with Kyle Camilleri clinching 6th place thanks to a higher last game of 210, since he ended with the same pin fall as George Camilleri.

Leader Melvin Galea managed 3 wins but these were only enough to get him to 3rd place, where he had to face Kyle Camilleri who started the day with a brilliant 287 scratch game that helped him shoot up to 2nd place just 2 pins behind Special Olympics bowler Nicholas Falzon.

Camilleri then faced Galea to defeat him 217-159 and then needed to beat leader Falzon twice. First game was a very tense and close one, with Camilleri just edging Falzon 159-146, and then went on to shoot a good 202 to Falzon’s 155 to emerge a worth winner.
