-

Malta will start its committments in the second edition of the Nations League in Torshavn against Faroe Islands. It will be a first for new national coach Devis Mangia, who had to make his debut way back in March, but the pandemic decided otherwise.

Malta is in Group D1 together with Latvia, Andorra and tonight’s opponents Faroe Islands.

Mangia will be looking for a good start against the nordic opponents who were always a hard nut to crack for the locals.

Speaking remotely from Torshavn to local journalists in the pre-match press conference Mangia said that he hoped for a good performance and a good result.

He uis satisfied with the enthusiasm being showed by the players, not only the new ones but also the so-called veterans.

He said physically we start at a disadvantage with our season practically still to start, but Mangia said he is confident that with tactical discipline we will overcome this.

He said that this is a four-year project and the difference cannot be seen in a week, but he said that he hoped that in tonight’s match and Sunday’s encounter against Latvia, the Maltese will show that they are on the right track.

Hibernians central defender, veteran Andrei Agius also spoke ahead of tonight’s encounter.

He said that all opponents of the national team are well prepared and there are no easy matches, as past matches against Faroe Islands showed.

He said that all the group of players is determined to give their all this evening hoping for a good result.

In the last edition of the Nations League malta was in the same group with the Faroe Islands, winning 2-1 with ten men at Ta’ Qali, but then suffered a 1-0 defeat in Torshavn, a defeat that left malta once again at the bottom of the group.
