Group of migrants relocated to France; ‘hundreds’ more in coming weeks – government

-

A group of migrants were relocated to France on Friday after an agreement was reached between Malta and the French government.

The migrants left Malta on a direct flight to Paris, where they will continue with the asylum process, the Home Affairs Ministry said.

The ministry did not specify the size of the group.

The ministry said the relocation took place after the necessary arrangements were made by the Government, the French Embassy in Malta and the International Organisation for Migration (IOM).

These included medical tests and COVID-19 screening.

The ministry said that, despite the challenges brought about by the pandemic, hundreds of migrants will be relocated to other EU Member States in the coming weeks and months.
