COVID-19 claims the lives of three more victims

Three elderly people died with COVID-19, the health authoritie­s said.

The first victim was a 79-yearold man who tested positive on November 1. He died at Mater Dei Hospital on Sunday.

The second victim was an 87year-old man, who was confirmed positive on 3 November. He died on Monday at Mater Dei Hospital.

The third victim was a 75-yearold man who was confirmed positive for COVID-19 on 6 November. He died at Mater Dei Hospital on Monday.

The health authoritie­s sent their condolence­s to the victims’ families and appealed to the public to follow the COVID-19 guidelines.

In their daily update, the health authoritie­s said that 102 new cases of COVID-19 were registered.

The number is identical to the number of cases reported on Sunday.

82 new recoveries were also registered, meaning that the number of active cases now stands at 1,980.

2,851 swab tests were carried out between Sunday and Monday, taking the total number of swab tests up to 364,249 so far.

Authoritie­s said that the cases announced yesterday are still being investigat­ed, but gave details about the cases reported on Sunday.

Out of the 102 cases reported on Sunday: 12 were contacts of positive work colleagues, 9 were family members of previously known cases, 4 were direct contacts of positive cases, and another 1 was from a social gathering.

Malta has had a total of 7,243 cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic first hit the islands. 5,185 of those have recovered, while 81 have died.
