Holistic strategy for national heritage being drawn up

-

The Ministry for the National Heritage, the Arts and Local Government launched the process which will lead to the drawing up of a holistic national strategy for our national heritage that will incorporate various necessary reforms. This vision aims at consolidating and carrying out the necessary reforms in this area, and therefore should lead to greater protection and valorisation of our country’s national heritage.

The ministry appointed strategy and subsequent reforms in coordination and in full consultation with all stakeholders in the sector. Joseph Magro Conti has served as Superintendent of Cultural Heritage for the past two and a half years and has been instrumental in driving various reforms.

Minister for the National Heritage, the Arts and Local Government José Herrera stated that this is an important step for our country, since this strategy and subsequent reforms should further promote the protection and recognition of the unique value that our national heritage offers not only locally but also on a global scale.

In light of this task, Minister José Herrera is appointing Kurt Farrugia as Superintendent of Cultural Heritage under the terms of the Cultural Heritage Act (Cap. 445). Farrugia holds a Master’s Degree in Archaeology from the University of Malta and has worked in the field of national heritage for the past 14 years. For the last two years, Farrugia has held the position of Head of Planning Consultations within the Superintendence.
