-

Ricardo Severino was instrumental for Marsa St Michael in their first outing of the MAFA Special League as he scored two goals against Żejtun Laċċi to help his team win 4-1.

Even Versity AFC and Valletta Stars started brightly their 2020/2021 campaign as they registered their first win of the tournament.

From this second round of matches, we had the opportunity to watch 12 teams involved in the MAFA Special League with other three still to play their first game. One can say that the level of play was impressive as all the teams possess a good squad. Moreover, 14 goals were scored in this second round of matches with Marsa grabbing the biggest win.

As said, Ricardo Severino hit the target twice in Marsa’s 4-1 win against Żejtun Laċċi. The latter were making their official debut in this association. At first they found it hard to absorb their opponents pressure while producing better football in the second half.

Despite all this, Marsa St Michael were hungry for the three points at stake and this was a positive debut for newly appointed coach Matthew Coleiro.

As Severino scored a brace, David Azzopardi and Davide Martini also put their names in the scoresheet for Marsa. Żejtun Laċċi scored their consolation goal through Louis Fabian Kyereneh.

The match between Versity AFC and Senglea Gunners was an exciting affair with the former winning 3-2. Despite being 1-0 down, Versity managed to turn the tables and produce a good comeback to win the first three points of the season.

Senglea Gunners went ahead on 11 minutes through Simphiwe Nomfulana who confirmed his lethal touch in front of goal. Despite all this, Versity reacted immediately and scored two three quickfire goals courtesy of Louis Gangcliff, Alfonso Martine and a super goal by Abdi Ali Jamal.

Senglea refused to throw in the towel with Nomfulana completing a brace. The Cottonera side started the second half aggressively but Versity managed to control the proceedings to register a very important win.
