New timing equipment for Karting events

-

On Saturday 13th of February Island Karting Club, Karting Club Malta and Malta Motorsport Federation organised an event at the new La Reve Racetrack in Hal Far. Over 100 karting drivers and other motorsport officials renewed or got their licence for the first time. At 10 am Hon. Dr Clifton Grima Parliamentary Secretary for Youths, Sports and Voluntary Organisations presented new timing equipment.

This equipment is made specifically for kart racing. Part of the system will be installed in the kart and other parts along the track. Both parts communicate with each other to provide drivers, teams, and the organisers the exact time each kart is doing per lap and part thereof. Precise results will be printed automatically from the same system following each race.

The cost of this equipment is €24,000. €20,000 of this investment was covered by SportMalta.

Duncan Micallef, President of the Malta Motorsport Federation said that this is an important investment in our youths, an investment that would have not been possible without the intervention of SportMalta. This is an investment in our children. The number of children practicing karting has grown substantially. Interest in the sport and investment will continue to grow. We take this opportunity to thank Dr Grima and all at SportMalta for their continuous support. The Federation is that it will continue to find them behind us.
