To change and to deliver

Change is a strong word. It is one thing talking about change and the need to change and another to implement it, for talk is cheap.

AWe had the courage to change the party and subsequently we changed the country. Malta is an open society thanks to the changes brought about by our party.

lso, change comes at a cost. A huge cost if one looks at the way this government changed the country’s infrastructural road landscape. That is just one aspect of change.

Change must be driven by one’s will to do things differently. This government is driven by that will. The will to change and to deliver. We also changed the way we do things. To deliver a project on time (or indeed ahead of time) within the allocated budget and that’s another big change in the way we do things in our country. Gone are the days when a project starts, and its delivery keeps being postponed with expenditure going haywire. Mater Dei Hospital is a clear example.

We changed the country because the party changed within itself. We were a party in Opposition for far too long. Until we understood that change is vital for the survival of political parties. Currently, the PN is trying to copy Labour’s formula of change but it lacks will. Because change is not something you can talk about. Change ought to be felt by those who are responsible for its implementation. Opposition Leader Bernard Grech speaks about change and tough decisions which need to be taken, not because he has the will to change, but because numbers do tally with his intentions.

We had the courage to change the party and subsequently we changed the country. Malta is an open society thanks to the changes brought about by our party. Bernard Grech started talking about change out of convenience only after the latest polls showed that despite all the talk and what not, the PN is running on the spot. Now he wants to change. What exactly is he changing?

We are being told that old PN faces need to make space for new ones. Is that all the change he can bring about? Change is hard, but to change, one must believe in it. It will be very difficult for a politician with a conservative character like Bernard Grech to bring about change.

On the other hand, we mean change because we believe in it. We want change and we are implementing change in the country’s infrastructure. Not just its road. The Constitutional infrastructure is not what it was in 2013.

We have stronger institutions were the politician’s influence is practically nonexistent. The Prime Minister who is a firm believer in reforms changed it. He divested himself from powers every Prime Minister had since 1964. We believe we achieve more if we keep on changing. We have changed the mentality of our population. Our society is more open because our party has been implementing openness. Our vision of change evolves with society and as society evolves, as a party, we evolve at par because we’ve changed and will continue changing for the better.
