Water – Be the Change national campaign launched in Gozo
Gozitan families will be receiving kits for the conservation of water in their households as the national campaign known as Water – Be the Change has landed in Gozo.
Thanks to this campaign, during the months of June and July, more than 12,000 Gozitan families will be receiving water-saving kits.
The Gozo distribution was launched by Minister for Energy, Enterprise and Sustainable Development Miriam Dalli, Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri, and Parliamentary Secretary for European Funds Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi.
The mobile unit will be visiting a different locality every week to distribute the water saving kits. Each residence will receive a voucher and a gift pack, which would then be redeemed from the mobile unit available at the locality during the particular week as advised.
Minister Miriam Dalli emphasised the importance of small daily changes that lead to more considerable changes.
“The distribution of these water kits is aimed at helping households make simple changes to help reduce the excessive use of water. With the installation of this equipment, along with daily practices for the efficient use of water, a four-member family can reduce water consumption by 40,000 litres per year,” explained Minister Miriam Dalli.
Minister Camilleri praised this campaign which will be distributing kits to all Gozitan localities in the next two months. He remarked how important it is “that from an early age, we nurture our children not to waste water. And this is the purpose of this investment. The Ministry for Gozo has always welcomed and will continue to welcome these types of investments for the benefit of all Gozitans.”
Parliamentary Secretary for
European Funds Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi highlighted how the project’s investment amounts to €24.4 million, of which €21.2 million are European funds. He explained how these funds are funding the Water – Be The Change information campaign which is being conducted in various localities, now also starting in Gozo, together with initiatives taken towards the improvement of the water quality.
In this campaign about 100,000 water-saving kits will be distributed, in which one can find several objects aimed towards the preservation of water.
The Parliamentary Secretary concluded by saying that with initiatives like these, we will stay in contact with our communities so that together we can preserve our water resource which is of paramount importance to us.
This campaign is managed by the Energy and Water Agency within the Ministry for Energy, Enterprise and Sustainable Development and is financed by the European Cohesion Funds.
