Go Green Week to encourage more environmentally-friendly initiatives launched
Minister for the Environment, Climate Change and Planning Aaron Farrugia announced a collaboration between the Ministry and Eden Leisure Group for a week full of activities: Go Green Week.
Between 15 and 21 September 2021, a number of environmental initiatives will be carried out by the company.
Minister Farrugia explained that the Go Green Week initiative is designed to encourage individuals and companies to implement more green initiatives to support the local environment in the best possible way. These initiatives, which form part of the Saving our Blue campaign, will support this campaign in disseminating information and monitoring the progress of the environmental agenda.
The Minister explained how the film and entertainment industry has the power to inspire billions of people around the world, making it an important partner in addressing the environmental issues around us. The Minister said that the government will continue to support private companies implementing such initiatives so that we can work together to reduce negative impacts on our environment and move towards sustainability.
This collaboration with Eden consists of a number of initiatives. Most notably, the company will be showing a number of environment-related films for free or against a donation of €1. The funds that will be raised will go towards the contribution of the Eco Fund, which will be used for environmental initiatives. There will also be a number of clean-ups on beaches around Malta as part of the Saving our Blue campaign collaboration, as well as a book drive where books will be donated to charity shops with the aim of encouraging the concept of book recycling.
As part of the agreement, the use of alternative transportation to the workplace by Eden employees will also be encouraged, in addition to the use of remote working in order to contribute to fewer cars on the road.
Through this collaboration, the Ministry continues to encourage other private companies to contribute to initiatives in favour of our natural and marine environment, and to continue to safeguard local biodiversity.
“We are encouraging the public to apply these actions to their daily lives as well. We need to be more responsible in how we dispose our waste, particularly in marine-protected areas. We all need to do our part to protect our environment, on which many lives, ecosystems, and the economy depend,” Minister Farrugia said.
