‘We are not infallible, we recognise our mistakes and want to make up for them’ – Robert Abela

Prime Minister Robert Abela pledged to make right with certain mistakes and stated that the Labour Party in government is “not infallible and we never thought that as a government we could not fail.”

Addressing a Labour Party activity on Friday, Abela laid out the general direction the country would be taking politically. “Renewing the good this country has to offer as well as improving key aspects of society is the motivation moving forward,” Abela said.

Abela said that “we are going to continue to reform our country and the Labour Party is the means to do that.”

“A Malta of today is better than a Malta of 10 years ago, just like a Malta of 10 years ago is better than a Malta of 20 years ago.

That’s why we have to continue renewing and innovating.”

Being an EU member country has helped Malta achieve its goals when it comes to improving quality of life, environmental impact and digitisation, Abela said. “Malta in the EU under a Labour government has managed to obtain the biggest funds package in history.”

“Through the EU funds, together with the budget in the coming days, our country will be focusing on these aspects in order to improve the quality of life for generations to come.”

Abela said that by the government focusing on education and green energy, future generations would not need to rely on government social aid and therefore other social aspects would be improved.

“The government has a clear plan for both the present and the future of this country. These plans have been approved by the EU Commission and President of the European Commission Ursula von dar Leyen has labeled our recovery and resilience plan as the most courageous when it comes to environmental reform,” Abela said.

“These are all promising signs,” Abela said while also warning that there is still a long way to go. “The Labour Party is there to listen and adapt to the changing situations. This is the basis of the work we do politically.”
