Labour still holds 14-point lead as PN fails to bridge 2017 gap – political survey

The Labour Party still holds a 14point lead over the Nationalist Party, indicating that the Opposition has so far failed to bridge the gap it lost by in the 2017 general election, a political survey has shown.

The survey, carried out by Vincent Marmara’s firm Sagalytics, showed that if a general election were to take place tomorrow, 56.2% of the electorate would vote for the PL, while 42.1% would vote for the PN.

A further 1.7% would vote for ADPD or other parties.

Marmara explained on Facebook that the survey uses the Multiple Imputation Technique – which is a way of integrating those who say they don’t know who they will vote for and those who say they will not vote into the results.

Compared with the results of the 2017 general election, the survey shows that the PL has gained 1.2% in support, while the PN has lost 1.6% of its support. Third party support increased by 0.4%.

The survey, which was carried out between 10 and 15 September with 750 people, has a confidence level of 95% and a margin of error of 3.6%.

The results are nearly identical to the most recent Sagalytics survey from last July, where the PL held 55.9% of the support compared to the PN’s 42.4%.

In terms of trust in the leaders, Robert Abela remains the most trusted out of Malta’s political leaders, with 52.2% saying that he is the best person to lead the country.

30.7% said that they trust Bernard Grech, while 12.8% said that they don’t trust any of the current crop of leaders to lead the country.

3% said that they don’t know and the remaining 1.3% said that they trust someone other than Abela and Grech.
